What is MadKing?
Digital technologies have played a very important role in the development of my work. However, very early in my career I became acutely aware of the limitations of the digital realm. MadKing as a body of work was formulated as an antidote to these limitations. As my work became increasingly mediated by digital technologies, I found that I yearned for a much more corporeal connection to the work. So in 1995 I initiated a series of drawings, and screen prints that situated the hand squarely within the work. Over the course of the ensuing twelve years I have returned to this work as a kind of refuge from the demands of pieces like Catfish, Bull and Wounded Horse and Eye Sling Shot Lions.
